La motoarele cu alimentare pe benzina , bujia , reprezinta elementul sistemului de aprindere , care are rolul de a produce scanteie , intre electrozii acesteia , care sa aprinda amestecul carburant din camera de ardere . O bujie , se compune dintr-un electrod pozitiv , amplasat central , alimentat de bobina de inductie , unul lateral , negativ , legat la corpul bujiei , corpul metalic exterior , care se insurubeaza in chiulasa , izolator ceramic , care izoleaza electrodul central , garnituri de etansare din praf de caolin presat , amplasate in zona de contact dintre corpul metalic al bujiei si izolatorul ceramic si piulita de contact , prin care se alimenteaza bujia . Bujia , indeplineste un rol esential , in functionarea motorului , alegandu-se functie de caracteristicile acestuia . Daca o bujie este prost aleasa , incalzirea izolatorului la temperaturi de peste 900 de grade celsius , poate duce la aprinderi secundare ale amestecului carburant , cauzand motorului pierderi de putere si o functionare cu batai . Bujia este dimensionata sa respecte mai multe cerinte : - valoarea termica , care reflecta capacitatea bujiei de a transmite caldura din camera de ardere , inspre mediul ambiant , ea fiind supusa , in timpul functionarii , unor solicitari termice extreme , datorate diferentelor de temperatura dintre partea care intra in camera de ardere si partea expusa mediului exterior . -rezistenta mare la solicitari electrice , aprox 5000 de volti in timpul functionarii normale ,putand ajunge , pana la 12000 de volti , la pornirea de la rece . -solicitari mecanice , care intervin in cilindri , datorita variatiei presiunii gazelor , dar si a trepidatiilor , care apar in timpul functionarii . Se deosebesc doua tipuri de bujii , calde si reci ., cele calde avand valori termice mai mari . Durata de viata a unui set de bujii este de aproximativ 60.000 de kilometri . La motoarele noi , generarea scanteii la fiecare bujie , este controlata de catre calculatorul de injectie . -
